Introverts, Extroverts, Intro-extroverts, and Extro-introverts…..And…..Alligators????

INTROVERTS, EXTROVERTS, INTRO-EXTROVERTS,

AND EXTRO-INTROVERTS……AND…..ALLIGATORS????

My dearest friend, in the whole, wide world, Fawn Germer, (www.fawngermer.com), hosted me during some of my days in Dunedin, Florida, while I was preparing to make the leap into my new life as an expat in Montevideo, Uruguay, South America. The subject of Extrovert/Introvert Identification come up. I’d like to quote some of my resulting journal entries:

“Fawn will return tonight sometime with an inner breakthrough learned on her camping/kayaking trip to North Florida, described in a phone call today. She has suddenly realized that she’s an Introvert!

Well, she leads such an Extrovert life as a national corporate motivational speaker but she needs and seeks solitude. It all came clear to her on this weekend trip to the wilderness because fifty people came to a kayaking meet-up at Juniper Springs. Surprisingly, she found herself frequently retiring to her tent, simply to be alone; so she can’t wait to get home and have a talk about it.”

(I housesat for her cats while she was camping. Upon return, she had a new question for The Holy Spirit, inspired by a lone paddle up a deserted Silver Springs’ stream, during which she saw dozens of huge alligators; any one of which could have easily overturned her kayak and gobbled her up.)

Oh, my Holy Spirit! Fawn asks: “Why, alligators or other predators that are “here to hurt us?”

Oh, My little innocent human creatures! We hope that you will never meet any such wild creatures as that. Mostly, because We don’t have a clue why you would want to go into their territory. It’s not as if they walk down Park Avenue, attacking everyone, right and left. They were here long before the human race came along and maybe…..just maybe, they will survive, once the humans have faded away. We didn’t design these two species to interact with each other. And that is the answer to all these strange combinations.

Fawn asks: “Why didn’t God want us to enjoy beautiful Silver Springs in our kayaks?”

“Oh My God, Linda Layli and Fawnie, Fawn-Fawn! We haven’t ever kept you out of Silver Springs but it comes equipped with natural predators and that is just that! Enter at your own risk and don’t expect Us to sweep it out and sanitize it of all sorts of dangers if you choose to make it your playground.

Like We said, these alligators got here millions of years before any of you did. They are at the head of the line and humans are late-comers. You have to be fair with Earth’s original occupants. Just be glad that the dinosaurs are not still stomping through the territories you have built your cities in!”

The next day, Fawn and I talked about the Introvert/Extrovert puzzle and her shock that she may not be as much the Extrovert as she has always thought she was. If ever there was a poster-child for Extrovertism, Fawn is that;as her long-term, public speaking career demands. She is a very busy and popular motivational speaker for large corporate gatherings on the top business tier. Plus, she’s a best-selling author and interviews famous people for her many books. She’s a natural at networking within a group of  strangers and she loves the life she leads.

Now, she’s suddenly realizing that she’s an Introvert? What is this? Oh my Holy Spirit! Would You please weigh-in on this subject?

“Can We talk about it some other time? Oh My God! We don’t want to upset the apple cart on your last day in Florida and We would not agree with either one of you, so let’s not even touch the subject, unless she wants to argue with Me and I don’t think she would like what We say about Introvertism. Would you like to ask her if she wants to hear My point of view?”

How long would it take? We’re going to watch a Netflix movie tonight and eat leftovers. I thought that You could just confirm what we’ve both been concluding in perfect agreement. Now, I’m curious.

“It wouldn’t take too long but it’s awfully interesting to Me; but would not, definitely would not, be of any interest to any of you humans.”

Why don’t You whisper it to me now and I’ll see whether to read it to Fawn?

“Y.E.S! Okey-dokey! We love the extroverts of the world! And Fawn is an excellent extrovert, so We don’t want to lose her to Introvertism. I know it sounds like Democrats and Republicans to you, but it’s not at all like that.”

So, You want more extroverts?

“No, basically, We want them to stay as they are because We have so many things going on within their hearts and We can work with whatever they are. Just don’t switch parties mid-stream. That’s enough of that……”

What am I then?

“You are an Intro-extrovert and you have always been one of those. Fawn is an Extro-introvert and We need her to do what she’s doing.”
